The CANIK METE-MC9 Prime
By Curt Staubach
Made in the USA, Feature-Packed, and Ready to Run
For years, Canik has built its name on offering an unbeatable balance of performance and price. They’ve delivered some of the best optics-ready, competition-capable pistols with great triggers, smart ergonomics, and real-world reliability—usually for hundreds less than the competition. But one thing has always been true: every Canik pistol, no matter how good, has been an import.
The Mete MC9 Prime changes that. It’s the first Canik handgun made right here in the U.S., produced at their new facility in West Palm Beach, Florida. And it’s not just a “now assembled stateside” sticker slapped on the same product. This is a full-featured, purpose-built carry pistol with real upgrades, serious attention to detail, and no need for aftermarket upgrades made in Florida.

About Canik
Based near the mountain bearing its name, a name in ancient times that meant a place of protection, Canik has been a significant player in the aerospace defense industry for twenty years and 2019 marks its 10th year as a world-leading firearm manufacturer.
The company’s aerospace manufacturing expertise led to partnerships with Lockheed Martin, Airbus and Boeing, which in turn enabled the development of a high quality polymer pistol and the beginning of the TP series and adoption by Turkish Law Enforcement.
In 2012 Canik partnered with Century Arms to introduce Canik TP pistols to the U.S. market. The company has quickly risen to the forefront of firearm conversations, including being named the 2018 Editor’s Choice for Versatile/Value Pistol by Ballistic Magazine.

The First Look: All Business
At first glance, the MC9 Prime hits the usual Canik notes—aggressive slide cuts, strong lines, and functional aesthetics. But it doesn’t overdo it. The porting on the top and sides of the slide and barrel not only keeps the gun shooting flat, it also gives it a bit of attitude. Everything about the fit and finish feels solid. The slide is smooth, the trigger safety has a sharp gold accent, and nothing feels out of place.
What’s In the Box
Here’s what really separates the Mete Prime from most carry guns on the market: Canik gives you everything you need, and then some. In the box you’ll find:
- Two 17-round magazines
- Night Fision tritium night sights
- A removable, flared magwell
- Two interchangeable backstraps
- A mag loader
- Cleaning kit and punch tool
- A tool kit (in the shape of a tiny gun) which is actually useful and fun
- A G-Code holster
- A TSA-approved hard case with custom cut foam
And that case? It’s not just nice—it’s actually functional. It has space for mags, gear, and even a chamber flag. This is a legitimate, TSA approved, lockable travel case. Most companies send their guns in disposable plastic clam-shells or a cardboard box. This thing shows up ready for work.
